Gateway Design Studio was commissioned by the City of Ballwin, MO to provide design documents for the renovation and construction of the existing playground and an additional central staircase. 

 

The playground area is to be designed for various age groups from 2-5 years of age to 5-12 years of age with swings and an existing splash pad. The site is to assure full ADA compliance, all-inclusive design in addition to the opportunity for all abilities to play and interact.

 

The design of the central staircase and retaining walls will provide a critical link across the site as well as a Sloped Play Area will be incorporated into the design. This play area will be adjacent to the destination playground and utilize the existing sloped topography as an integral play feature. Additional features may include slides integrated into the hillside, rope climbs, boulder steps, tree stumps, and an obstacle course.

Specific design services include site plan layout, grading drainage details, and notes and cost estimates for a two-phased project. The first project phase includes playground design and replacement, splash pad renovation, hexagon pavilion design and construction. Phase two includes the development of a hillside play space, staircase design and construction.

RECOMMENDATIONS

The project calls for playground replacement, splash pad renovation with pavilion installation design construction. Phase two includes the development of a hillside play space, as well as central staircase design construction.

 

It is anticipated that the construction work for the playground will begin late 2023.
